Boris
Dear
Album · Rock · 2017 · Fangsanalsatan
Dear marks Japanese trio Boris’ 25th year exploring the spectrum of heavy music, from pitch-black experimentalism to high-gloss shoegaze, balancing beauty and force in a way few bands can. Dear tends toward the tougher end of things, mixing sepulchral whispers and slow-moving clouds of distortion (“D.O.W.N.”) with Sabbath-style churn (“Absolutego”) airbrushed with heavenly, almost dissociated vocals. Most arresting is “Memento Mori,” which evolves from sludge to air in five seamless minutes.
