Ramil Ganjoo invites listeners to his first album Khaak with a warming glow—present in his twinkling, luxuriant arrangements and life-affirming vocal melodies. The singer-songwriter is at times subtle, as on “Sheher”, but shows an intimate sense for production, heard in the swell of songs like the opening title track and the folksy rumbling of “Dariya” which are balanced by the dream-pop yearning of “Chodate Abhi” and “Waqt”. Ganjoo’s acoustic guitar is a constant throughout, with his charming way with rhythms shining through; take the standout “Khala”, which moves like a clock being wound up.
