Despite thrashing like demons for more than 15 years, Carnal is only the third album crafted by Mumbai deathgrind outfit Gutslit. But it’s worth the six-year wait since Amputheatre. The quartet’s sound is more rounded here, with vocalist Aditya Barve—who missed out on that second record—in sharp form. Notorious serial killers are the thematic stars of the show, via the pummelling musicianship of guitarist Prateek Rajagopal, bassist Gurdip Singh Narang and drummer Aaron Pinto. Highlights include frantic opener “Son of Sam”, 41-second grindcore belter “Insidious” and closer “Primeval”, with its eerie breakdown.
