Heatwave

Trapped Under Ice's third record, which clocks in at just under 14 minutes, serves up a bracing onslaught of pure, unadulterated aggression. The band's NYHC roots are never far from the surface—witness the fast-talking punk scramble "Backstabbed" or the thrashing "XL"—but they throw a few curveballs as well in between all the sweat-inducing riffage. "Throw It Away" exudes a macho nu-metal swagger, "Pressure Is On" recalls Bay Area pop-punk, and "No Relief" is a hardcore pastiche of intricate, tangled-up rhythms.
