Cham
Lawless
Album · Modern Dancehall · 2017 · Madhouse Records
Even in the face of major-label woes and an 11-year wait between albums, Cham has maintained his status as a 21st-century dancehall heavyweight. Lawless continues that legacy, as Cham declares atop the prickly bounce of “I Don’t Care”: “I will shine, and nothing you can do will stop me.” He’s brought some friends along for the ride as well, like Damian Marley on the digital-dub thump of “Fighter” and Miss O on the sparse, woozy liquor anthem “Get Drunk.”
