Canadian rapper k-os made a national impact with 2004’s Joyful Rebellion, yet it was his 2006 follow-up Atlantis - Hymns for Disco that made him globally renowned as an alternative hip-hop phenomenon. Nearly two decades later, this remastered and expanded edition of his rich and diverse third album rightfully returns focus to this highlight in a unique discography. Fan favorites like “The Rain” and standout single “Sunday Morning” sound undeniably current, arguably improving with age when positioned next to some of his subgenre successors. Longtime listeners and curious newcomers will naturally gravitate to the record’s series of bonus cuts. “I FeLL 4 Her!” clatters in its lo-fi glory, while the once-hidden “Chocolate Chewing Gum” finally gets the appropriate billing. The country twang and earnest hook that opens “Invulnerable” evolves into an Everlast-reminiscent rap ballad that twists love song tropes into complex knots for its enduring protagonist to heroically untie.
