The Rose
WRLD
Album · Alternative · 2025
A week before a documentary film chronicling the band’s journey from buskers to K-rock stars premiered at the 2025 Tribeca Film Festival, The Rose released their EP WRLD. In comparison to the pop-rock anthems of their 2023 album DUAL, WRLD is a much more subdued, self-reflective affair. Where DUAL was punchy and electric, WRLD is soft and acoustic, like a warm rush of summer air let in through a cracked window compared to the invigorating gust that was “Back to Me.”
The seven-track English-language EP from vocalist and guitarist Woosung, vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Dojoon, bassist Jaehyeong, and drummer Hajoon pairs comfort with nostalgia. This is perhaps best exemplified by the big-swing messaging of “O,” which starts as a minimalist, “Imagine”-esque piano ballad before building to a sing-along pop-rock refrain: “We are the world/No colors to divide/Just come as one/We go as one.”
