The opening, cyclical mantra of AtHeart’s “Plot Twist” (”Don’t know what you got till it’s gone”) washes over listeners like an incantation. By the time the song evolves into the muted, melancholic bounce that defines a majority of its runtime, the spell has already been cast. The track was the lead single off of the girl group’s debut EP, also titled Plot Twist. Along with the 2025 project’s four other tracks, “Plot Twist” situated the septet within the easy-listening electronica trend that dominated K-pop after NewJeans’ 2022 debut. AtHeart’s seven debut members included Michi, Arin, Katelyn, Bome, Seohyeon, Aurora, and Nahyun (though Aurora was on hiatus due to health issues for the release and was not heavily featured on the EP). They hail from Korea, Japan, the Philippines, and the US. With a multicultural lineup, and managed by a US-based company founded by K-pop industry veterans, AtHeart continues the industry’s fifth-generation focus on going global.
