But while albums may have taken a back seat, a steady stream of singles and commanding performances kept her name ringing in all the right places for well over a decade. With ZEE Nation Volume 1, the Zee Nation Fest founder proves she hasn’t missed a beat. Sonically, the album explores a spectrum of moods and textures. Robust percussion and panned shakers bounce atop infectious 3-step grooves, while songs like “Pepe Remix,” driven by gqom’s buzzing synths, and closer “Sweet Guluva”—where hypnotic chants weave through powerful melodies and throbbing synths—affirm a curator who remains tapped in, her ear ever to the street. The cover art, a collage of real faces from her loyal fanbase, the Zee Nation, was collected during the album’s rollout campaign. That same spirit runs through the features and producers: a blend of rising voices like Sindi Nkosazana, Sfundo, and NDLOH JNR, and established names such as Thabsie, Mthunzi, Nana Atta, and Brenden Praise.
