New Orleans spitter Curren$y is so prolific it’s surprising it took this long to start naming his albums after the dates they were released. That’s what he’s done with his second LP of 2025, 7/30, following another Harry Fraud collab album, Never Catch Us. Though the title isn’t particularly imaginative, Curren$y remains a wizard at finding new, thrilling ways to rap about the finer things in life. Spitta Andretti’s albums are full of bars about “fast cars and weed jars,” and his preferred beats feature smooth drums and jazzy samples. On 7/30, he continues to record songs that instantly enter his canon of elite tracks. Take “When Kush Clouds Rain,” which serves as a pretty solid maxim for his entire oeuvre. Over a head-nodding drum groove and subdued horn melodies, he raps: “When the kush clouds rain, it be champagne/Windshield wipers on the gull wing/Mercedes peace sign gang, maintain.” Maintain he does.
