As a posthumous project, 123…Arcade! gives credence to the talents of boistory, the Ghanaian Nigerian singer-songwriter and producer whose musical journey was cut short by his death in 2024. Helmed by Beninois Ghanaian producer Rvdical the Kid, a friend and collaborator whose résumé boasts work with Amaarae and Nonso Amadi, we experience all the colors of boistory’s personality from joyous to inquisitive and witty. boistory’s stripped-back approach and Rvdical the Kid’s ear for immersive melodies make the duo formidable. Every mood seems like their comfort zone, from the bouncy thrill of opener “2AM in Lagos” to the more introspective and pensive “Myself.” That shift in tone, though slightly drastic, captures the oddity of late-night thoughts and feelings—from ecstasy to melancholy. “There’s something messing with me/Why I no dey feel like myself?” boistory posits. He daren’t linger in the self-reflection as “Regular” finds him questioning a love interest. On “Lost It,” the duo is joined by AYLØ, who shares a quick but effective verse in his signature elastic and subtly swung flow. By the end of the nine-track project, “Found My Way” leaves us with an image of a confident and hopeful boistory, one fans can hold high through the music he left behind.
