Cornelius
Mellow Waves
Album · Indie Pop · 2017 · Rostrum Records
Cornelius’ first album in 11 years continues to explore the style first hatched on his 1997 breakthrough, Fantasma: dreamy, eclectic, drawing equally from the vivid sound of '60s film music and the gentle side of avant-garde electronica. Filled with crisp details, Mellow Waves is the kind of quiet that sounds best played loud, from the funky, quasi-Brazilian inflections of “Sometime / Someplace” to the acoustic ellipses of “The Rain Song.”
