Baby Rasta y Gringo
El Final
Album · Pop Latino · 2025
In reggaetón, there are veterans and then there are veterans. Undeniably, Baby Rasta y Gringo fall into that latter category, having formed their original duo in the mid-’90s, when the genre scarcely had a name. Their membership in the pioneering Puerto Rican collective known as The Noise, with the likes of DJ Nelson and Ivy Queen, only serves to strengthen their reputation, one forged over decades. Following 2023’s long-awaited The Hunting, the duo return with what could very well be their full-length swan song, the decisively titled El Final. Whether or not that ends up being the case, the 16-track effort demonstrates the durability of their partnership, beginning with the pulsating afterglow of “WAKE UP” and culminating with the end-of-night optimism of “Reloj.” Between those two come a range of musical styles, inclusive of Afrobeats and dancehall reggae as well as further tropical hybrids, evident via highlights like “Lienzo” and “No hay amor.”
