Nothing Grows Here

Nothing Grows Here was shaped by the idea that nothing will grow until you leave everything. It lends a sense of tension and unease to the third album from New Zealand producer, singer-songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Serebii—real name Callum Mower—with the record’s atmosphere and sonic textures reflecting transition, ambiguity, and unfinished emotional states.
A departure from the more acoustic-driven direction of 2025’s Dime, Nothing Grows Here pulses with an electronic heart, balancing IDM, dub, funk, neo-soul, R&B, electronic, and even pop (“Even in the Quiet”). Influence comes from myriad places—the playful, energetic “MIA” was inspired by a voice note from a friend; the struggle to sustain a life in music amid commercial realities informed the title track. The alternative pop and experimental R&B of “Even in the Quiet,” meanwhile, explores intimacy and vulnerability, the guest vocals by an unidentified female lending the dreamy track a sense of melancholy.
