The Morning After
Album - Rock, Music, Rock & Roll, Blues-Rock, Hard Rock, Pop, Pop/Rock, Arena Rock
The J. Geils Band's second album is best known for its turbo-charged version of "Lookin' for a Love" by Bobby Womack's first group, The Valentinos; it became the Geils gang's first hit. It also sports the band's own tune "Cry One More Time," which earned immortality when it was covered by country-rock pioneer Gram Parsons on his 1973 debut album. But perhaps The Morning After's most impressive aspect is the fact that the band's original songs sound like they're cut from the same cloth as the vintage R&B tunes covered here, which include Dyke & The Blazers' funky "So Sharp" and Don Covay's '60s soul stroll "The Usual Place."
