For the sixth Radar Brothers album, singer-guitarist Jim Putnam teams up with a new rhythm section and proceeds as usual. Bassist, keyboardist and guitarist Be Hussey and drummer Steve Treichel fit perfectly with Putnam’s low-key groove. There’s a bit more pop movement to things like “Rainbow,” where the harmonies and quicker pulse make for a spirited good time, and “Xmas Lights,“ where everything shimmers with a ‘60s vibe strong with harmony and gentle guitar leads. But there are still plenty of moments where the day slows to a leisurely stroll and Putnam ruminates in that odd, offbeat manner of his. “Quarry” grinds with a sure-footed psychedelia, detailing its trudge to the finish line in the sky. “And the Birds” gently walks by with a springtime breeze riding its backbeat. “People” strums along with simple acoustic guitar and space keyboards. The sound builds throughout with the textures of a slimmed-down version of ork-pop masters Cardinal and Eric Matthews’ solo work with a touch of Yo La Tengo.
