Bodyparts (Bonus Track Version)
Album - Pop, Music, Electronic
Since 2005, Dragonette has been crafting memorable modern rock that often references the aesthetic of 1980’s technopop and new wave. Strong compositions and sharp productions give the songs on 2012’s Bodyparts, the London-by-way-of-Toronto quartet’s third studio album, a futuristic yet era-nonspecific sound. Singer/co-bandleader Martina Sorbara’s street-smart singing and unquestionable charisma continues to serve as a Dragonette trademark. “Run Run Run” opens Bodyparts with warm analog keyboard sounds and an "escape from metropolis" lyrical theme. The guitar-driven dance rock of “Live in This City” recalls mid-20th century girl groups with a spirited infusion of latter independence. “Let It Go” is full of infectious synth-based energy, while “Right Woman” goes full electro chic. A sequence line in the hook-filled “My Legs” seems to invoke fellow Canadian Corey Hart’s “Sunglasses at Night” with the acoustic closer “Cuckoo” a nod to Sorbara’s singer/songwriter past.
