The Bay Area's Andy Jordan has had his hands in a few different projects in the last decade, including the lamented Cuts and the current Lenz, an outfit seemingly molded from history's very best post-punk trailblazers. His solo project, Andy Human, is rooted in that thin band of musical time when punk and new wave often overlapped, creating a potent strain of power pop. Think Richard Hell crossed with The Nerves: great idea, right? Freeze is Andy Human's second full-length, loaded with a handful of knockout punches so powerful you could wring sweat out of them. "Land of the Dinosaurs" opens with a siren-like guitar riff that recalls The Clash, and the tune moves through punk-meets-glam territory with unbridled bounce and sass. Tunes like "The One" and "Sandman" pulse with the anxious, earnest edge of great, criminally unknown '80s bands like Dumptruck and The Embarrassment, while "Something Rotten" and "Break Your Face"—with its bold vintage organ and fuzzed-out guitar—exhibit true garage-punk genius.
