There’s a glorious, magical sense to the deliberately simple and repetitive “Night Lunch” that defies all logic. The formula should wear thin over five and a half minutes; instead, the hypnotic approach clicks into place and creates a warm, comfortable web of sound that need never end. The Austin, Texas, trio has killer instincts. Who else would record high-end synth-driven music onto a half-inch tape machine? After Love Inks' superb, minimalist-electronic debut album, 2011’s E.S.P., lead singer Sherry LeBlanc took her impressions of their first European tour (which began and ended in Berlin) as the basis for their second album, Generation Club. One can easily hear where Berlin’s atmosphere leaked into the concept of this bewitching album, though mostly in the attitude behind “Solar Diary” and “Secret Tattoo.” Quieter-than-usual tracks, such as the airy “Hold Out” and the vaguely more ambitious “Waiting on a Plane,” excel at nearly disappearing before your ears.
