Texas-via-Mexico sextet Control do appropriately outsized justice to late cumbia master Rigo Tovar on this upbeat album of norteño tributes. An invigorating mix of jaunty, tropical, dance floor-ready grooves, Recordando is driven by buoyant synths, fluid melodies, and, of course, tons of accordion. Their take on Tovar's "Mi Matamoros Querido" is faithful but fleshed out with percussive aplomb. The “Killing Me Softly With His Song” cover, “Suavemente,” bounces as much as it swoons.
