About Luke Stewart
Luke Stewart is a bassist, composer, saxophonist, activist, organizer, and writer. Comfortable in musical settings from vanguard jazz and post-bop to art punk and rock, he leads Luke Stewart Silt Trio, Luke Stewart Exposure Quintet, Heroes Are Gangleaders, and Heart of the Ghost; he co-leads Blacks' Myths. He is a founding member of Irreversible Entanglements and Trio 000. Stewart began his recording career on Trio 000's Live for Trayvon in 2013. His solo debut, Rhizome Residency Solos, appeared in 2017, followed by Works for Upright Bass and Amplifier in 2018. Two years later, the Luke Stewart Exposure Quartet issued its eponymous debut, as did the Luke Stewart & Jarvis Earnshaw Quartet. In 2022, both Works for Upright Bass and Amplifier, Vol. 2 and The Bottom, the freshman effort from Luke Stewart Silt Trio, appeared. In 2024, that band released Unknown Rivers for Pi Recordings.
