Artist Biography
Prior to forming the rock band Garbage, drummer Butch Vig produced Nirvana’s breakthrough album, Nevermind, and Smashing Pumpkins’ acclaimed debut, Gish.
∙ Garbage guitarist and keyboardist Stephen Marker contacted Scottish singer Shirley Manson after seeing her in a music video with her band Angelfish on MTV’s 120 Minutes.
∙ “Stupid Girl,” their 1995 breakthrough hit, was built around a sample of The Clash “Train in Vain.”
∙ A remix of “#1 Crush” was featured on the soundtrack for Baz Luhrmann’s William Shakespeare’s Romeo + Juliet and topped the Billboard Modern Rock chart in 1997.
∙ In 1999, they recorded the theme song for the 19th James Bond film, The World Is Not Enough.
∙ Manson launched her acting career in 2008, appearing and performing her own stunts as a T-1001 killer android in the TV series Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.
∙ Garbage has been nominated for seven Grammy Awards and sold 17 million albums worldwide.
