About Rekha Bhardwaj
Artist Biography
Equally at ease on devotional songs as well as Bollywood soundtracks, singer Rekha Bhardwaj has given new life to folk tunes with her lively, powerhouse interpretations.
• Trained in Indian traditional music as a child, Bhardwaj earned a graduate degree in Hindustani classical music, often specialising in ghazal performance.
• After she married film-maker and composer Vishal Bhardwaj in 1999, she moved to Mumbai. She sang on the track “Ye Kaisi Chap Kadmo Ki Sunai De Rahi Hai” from the film Jahan Tum Le Chalo. It was originally intended as a reference track for Lata Mangeshkar.
• Following occasional film-music work in collaboration with her husband, she released the ghazal album Ishqa - Ishqa in 2002.
• Bhardwaj’s reputation led to work with A. R. Rahman on “Genda Phool” from Delhi-6 and “Ranjha Ranjha” from Raavan.
• Bhardwaj is also known for her memorable performances on songs like “Kabira”, a duet with Tochi Raina for for 2013 romantic comedy Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani.
