Warhaus is the side project of Belgium-based Balthazar's frontman/lyricist Marten Devoldere. While that band's work falls under the indie pop umbrella, Warhaus' is more mercurial. With a dry, yet dramatically expressive romantic baritone amid guitars, murky percussion, vibes, guitars, strings, and occassional horns, Devoldere''s musical approach is more complex; it offers nocturnal, dreamy traces of Leonard Cohen, Nick Cave, Tom Waits, Benjamin Biolay, Serge Gainsbourg, and Love and Money in his compositional approaches. We F****d a Flame Into Being, the band's debut album, appeared on Play It Again Sam to critical accolades. A year later, an eponymous set earned notice on social media, YouTube globally, and at radio while the band toured Western and Northern Europe. Following the pandemic, Warhaus returned to the studio and emerged with the widely acclaimed Ha Ha Heartbreak in 2022, their most elegant long-player. 2024's Karaoke Moon joined noir-ish pop, darkly tinged club jazz, and 21st century yacht rock.
