Dead & Company: Live
Artist Biography
In 2015, 20 years after the death of Jerry Garcia, Dead & Company began extending the Grateful Dead’s legacy, with GD co-frontman Bob Weir and drummers Mickey Hart and Bill Kreutzmann joined by singer/guitarist John Mayer, former Allman Brothers bassist Oteil Burbridge, and keyboardist Jeff Chimenti, a veteran of multiple Dead offshoots. With Mayer handling most of Garcia’s vocal and guitar parts but never resorting to mimicry, Dead & Company, by touring the classic Grateful Dead repertoire, gave millions of Deadheads a reason to keep on truckin’. They played their first show on Halloween of 2015, with a full tour following close behind it, and after the response proved to be rapturous, the party kept on going into the 2020s. In keeping with the Dead tradition of prioritizing the live experience over albums, the band released no studio recordings in their first several years but made multiple concerts available online.
