About Space Of Variations
As their name suggests, Ukraine's Space of Variations contain sonic multitudes, operating within an amalgam of modern metal subgenres (djent, electronicore, industrial, and progressive metal) with equal parts raw power and technical prowess. The band came together in 2009 in Vinnytsia under a different name. By 2015, they had switched from Russian to English lyrics and adopted the moniker Space of Variations in hopes of attracting a more international audience. Comprising vocalist Dmytro Kozhukhar, guitarist/vocalist Oleksii Zatserkovnyi, bassist Anton Kasatkin, and drummer Tymofii Kasatkin, the group issued their debut album, Mind Darknet, in 2018, introducing metal audiences to their taut musicianship and futuristic/post-apocalyptic aesthetic. The LP caught the attention of Napalm Records, which enthusiastically added SOV to its roster and releasing the assured XXXXX (2020) and Imago (2022), the latter of which found considerable favor within the extreme metal community. Four years later, the group returned with the powerful Poisoned Art, a dark, emotionally charged set of songs written during the war in Ukraine, focusing on themes of trauma and resilience. ~ James Christopher Monger
