Artist Biography
Born into a musical family, her father a composer and her mother an opera singer, Norby was attracted to music from an early age. In 1982, she co-founded Street Beat, performing as the group’s lead singer, and the following year joined the jazz-funk group, Frontline. Norby was subsequently invited to sing with the Danish Radio Big Band, and in 1985 she formed a rock band, One-Two, with singer Nina Forsberg, a band that stayed together for eight years, recording three albums. In 1990, she and her mother, soprano Solveig Lumholt, performed Concerto For Two Sopranos, with the Zealand Symphonic Orchestra. Signed to Blue Note Records in 1995, Norby moved more overtly towards jazz, aided by contributions from Randy Brecker, Chick Corea and Don Grolnick.
