Artist Biography
Charles Lloyd is jazz composer, saxophonist and flutist, world renown for his dazzling improvisational acumen, widely celebrated experiments in crosspollinating jazz and rock, and integrating non-Western styles with jazz. 1966's Love In (1966) and 1970's In the Soviet Union showcased his warm, accessible playing style so successfully he played sold-out dates globally. Following a decade decade of experimrntal independent releases across the 1970s, he signed to ECM in 1990, and released a series of influential albums with various ensembles including 1993's The Call, 1997's Canto and 2002's LIft Every Voice. He signed to Blue Note in 2015 and formed the Marvels with guitarists Bill Frisell and Greg Leisz. They included Lucinda Williams for 2018's Vanished Gardens. In 2021, Lloyd issued 8: Kindred Spirits (Live from the Lobero), the Marvels issued Tone Poem. In 2022 Lloyd began his Trilogy of Trios albums with Trios: Chapel in March and Trios: Ocean in September.
