Artist Biography
Building his self-styled "G-folk" (guv'nor folk) style on grounded storytelling and acoustic sonics, East London singer/songwriter Hak Baker delivers poignant narratives of East London living. Though starting out with grime in his early years, he found new direction amidst his turbulent late teens, teaching himself how to play guitar and landing himself a space on training scheme Levi's Music Project in the process. His 2017 debut EP, Misfits. established him as one to watch on the U.K. music circuit; the six-track project built a modern mythology around the East End, painting candid stories of the city among emotive, earthy guitars. Baker's second LP, the cohesive Babylon, arrived in 2019, expanding his sound substantially, reminiscing over the young and wild, rallying against his city's authoritarianism, and addressing disguised struggles. A second EP arrived with 2021's Misled before he issued his radio-styled second LP, Worlds End FM in 2023.
