Born Shelton Hank Williams, the singer-songwriter adopted the moniker Hank III (or Hank3) when he started playing country, telling his punk music peers, āIf Iām gonna do [it], Iām gonna milk it.ā
ā Williams said heād avoided his familyās country music legacy until finding out that he had a son and owed years of child supportāso he hit the Branson, Missouri, concert circuit to pay off the debt.
ā Hank 3ās recording debut, Three Hanks: Men with Broken Hearts, featured the voices of three generations of Williamses singing Hank Sr.ās tunes.
ā He cut a version of his legendary grandfatherās āIām a Long Gone Daddyā for the 2001 Grammy Award-winning Hank Williams tribute album, Timeless.
