Artist Biography
Brooklyn-based trio Freezing Cold comprises members of several celebrated D.I.Y. bands. The foursome tapped into the literary punk sensibilities of groups like the Weakerthans or the Constantines, framing smart, urgent songwriting in the communicative ethos of late-2010s D.I.Y. communities.
Freezing Cold formed around 2017, made up of Aye Nako, drummer/vocalist Angie Boylan, singer/guitarist Jeff Cunningham (who had previously been a member of Ordinary Lives and Bridge and Tunnel), and ex-Weed Hounds bassist Nick Rice. The group's sound was rooted in both D.C. post-hardcore bands and lesser-known 2000s indie punk. They quickly recorded a three-song demo with Swearin's Kyle Gilbride and played select shows on the East Coast. In 2019 the band finished work on their first full-length, Glimmer. Shortly before the late September release of the album, Boylan was recruited by Sleater-Kinney as a touring drummer, following the resignation of their longtime kitwoman Janet Weiss. ~ Fred Thomas
