About Far Caspian
Leeds, U.K.-based dream pop project Far Caspian is driven by the creative talents of Irish multi-instrumentalist Joel Johnston. Everything about the music is understated, with hushed vocals and soft melodies, although in a live setting he recruits others to perform, creating a larger atmosphere. In response to playing live, his sound has gradually moved away from the bedroom pop of his debut EP, 2018's Between Days, and expanded into indie/alternative rock with a bigger presence, as demonstrated on his third album, 2025's Autofiction.
The project began with Johnston writing and recording music alone in his university bedroom, displaying a lo-fi sound that did well online. He officially became Far Caspian in 2017, recruiting friends to play live shows as required. A debut EP, Between Days, emerged the following year, cultivating a small fan base online and through radio play. A second EP, The Heights, followed in 2019, bolstering his presence and leading to festival slots. Although known within the D.I.Y. scene, the arrival of his debut album, 2021's Ways to Get Out, established him on a national scale. Employing more conventional song structures, he began work on a follow-up album, 2023's The Last Remaining Light. His third album, 2025's Autofiction, expended his sound further into indie/alternative rock, with a much bigger emphasis on dynamics and atmosphere.
Members of Far Caspian include, or have included, Joel Johnston.
