Artist Biography
In the artist’s words:
Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. As a four-year-old, I remember sitting next to my great-grandmother Selma at her grand piano, miraculously tucked into the living room of her tiny apartment. She was teaching me the right-hand melody to “Frére Jacques.” — Rachel
What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Japanese Breakfast, Jubilee Radiohead, In Rainbows The National, Boxer Bonus Track Version They're all examples of masterclass songwriting. In Rainbows and Jubilee are eclectic yet unified works that whisk you away to different realms. Boxer is an album with a beautifully focused sonic palette that feels timeless.
Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Incandescent Plumes” This one has a special place in our band’s heart as it embodies a truly collaborative spirit. During practice, we all swapped instruments on a whim and started jamming. That served as the impetus for this song’s creation and aesthetic.
What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? In 2016, we played The Owl’s 10th anniversary show at Bottom of the Hill in San Francisco, which was a surreal moment for us. To be invited by a gem of a music blog and gig at such a storied venue empowered us in a way that was previously unknown.
Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? Our ambition has only grown with each release, so there are sounds and songs we’d love to chase. We’ve still got a couple aces up our sleeve and can’t wait to shift gears again on our next album.
