About The Yummy Fur
One of Glasgow's most idiosyncratic indie bands, the Yummy Fur are also one of the most influential: After their first run ended at the turn of the 21st century, their members went on to form more prominent acts including Franz Ferdinand and 1990s. The Yummy Fur's sound and viewpoint were much more skewed than either of those acts, however. On the group's bevy of short-form releases and two full-lengths (1996's Night Club and 1998's Sexy World), singer/guitarist John McKeown's jagged riffs and knowing yelps had more in common with Television, John Cassavetes, or J.G. Ballard than their musical contemporaries. Though the band reunited for the occasional live show starting in the late 2000s and the 2019 compilation Piggy Wings made their music available to a wider audience, it wasn't until the 2020s that they returned to writing and recording in earnest. On 2026's Everybody Talks about the Weather, the Yummy Fur gave their ever-bracing art-punk clearer sonics and deeper feelings.
