In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail.
I regularly heard the song “Rocky Top” growing up in Knoxville, TN. There’s a video of me when I was two, singing the melody to Rocky Top, with correct timing, even though I didn’t know the right words. What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular?
Bill Monroe, Bill Monroe Bluegrass Legends
Billy Strings, Me / And / Dad
The Osborne Brothers, Greatest Bluegrass Hits Volume 1
I found these albums and fell in love with the drive and impressionistic playing styles. I made a list, then set a goal to learn every tune —note for note. In this process, I was inspired to compose my album and begin my bluegrass music journey. What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far?
Billy Strings recently invited me to play mandolin with him in Winston-Salem, NC, in honor of Doc Watson’s 100th Birthday Celebration.
We played Bill Monroe’s “Watson’s Blues” in front of 15,000 music lovers. I’m not sure how that will be topped.
