About Final Gasp
Boston quintet Final Gasp combine death rock with post-punk and hardcore for a gloomy sound at once depressive and aggressive. The band formed in 2019; all the members had previously been in other bands in the local hardcore scene, and wanted to form a band that would allow them to express their other influences. They mixed the sound of classic goth-punk bands like Danzig, Samhain, and Killing Joke with the thrashy energy of modern hardcore, metal influences, and, at least on their early releases, raw, sludgy production. Following their first two studio EPs, Baptism of Desire (2019) and Haunting Whisper (2021), they signed to Relapse in 2023 for their debut album Mourning Moon, which had a bigger, clearer sound than previous releases, without losing their jagged edge. The follow-up, New Day Symptoms, arrived in 2026.
