With roots in traditional jazz, stoked by a youthful apprenticeship with British legend Humphrey Lyttleton, sultry songstress Elkie Brooks’ varied career has seen many twists and turns. Brooks released a flurry of pop-soul singles (a la Dusty Springfield) on Decca in the 1960s, dripped with sexuality fronting the rock fusion band Vinegar Joe (with bandmate Robert Palmer), flirted with superstardom in 1981 with the smash MOR record PEARLS, and became a latter-day U.S. reality TV star in the ‘00s as part of the Brits-crossing-over series, REBORN IN THE U.S.A.
