Stephan Eicher co-founded the punk-techno act Grauzone. Their single "Eisbar" sold nearly 500,000 copies across Germany and Switzerland. Eicher's first solo album, Chansons Bleues, was issued in late 1983, obviously influenced by New Order. A year later, he sang in German, French, and English on I Tell This Night. Eicher's fascination and respect for novelist Philippe Djian eventually became part of his work and would continue to be a part of his musical direction for the rest of his career. By the '90s, Eicher had four albums behind him and was an international success. By the 2010s, he had more than doubled that score, releasing albums L'Envolée in 2013 and Homeless Songs in 2019, among others. ~ MacKenzie Wilson
