On the other side of the world from the birthplace of country music, Beccy Cole is a sterling practitioner of the genre in her native Australia. Stylistically, her music hews much closer to American country than the often Anglo/Celtic-inspired work of her peers: her biggest hit, "Poster Child (Wrong Side of the World)," meditated on the soldiers of the Iraq War just as the Chicks were emerging from their infamous backlash over the same subject, and she's since cultivated favor with a series of albums paying tribute to great practitioners of the form, from Dolly Parton to Loretta Lynn.
