About Al Olender
In the artist’s words:
Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. I did the 8th grade talent show with my best friend Abigail Dempsey. We both were weirdos who found each other and I think she made me believe that I could do it and I hope I did the same for her. We sang "do you believe in magic" and lost.
What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Al Olender, The Worrier Lucinda Williams, Car Wheels On a Gravel Road Shovels & Rope, O' Be Joyful I chose myself—maybe someone will listen through. Lucinda Williams sings of heartache and longing, her voice rising each song. Shovels & Rope have been my musical family; I’ve played their record nonstop since 2012 and toured with them.
Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Miracle Boy” “Miracle Boy” is about my brother, who passed away. He believed in my music, and this song honors who he was. I’m lucky to make art that serves as a memory bank. If you want to know me, you have to know Keith, too.
What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? I’ve been lucky to play incredible venues and tour with amazing artists. Each year I throw a hometown show and bring my mom onstage to sing her happy birthday. For her 60th, my whole city sang to her—that’s my special moment.
