Samara Joy is an American jazz singer from New York City whose velvety style and throaty alto reflect the golden era of interpretive genre vocalists from the 1930s through the mid-'60s. Her repertoire is comprised mainly of vintage jazz and pop standards. Joy's eponymous, acclaimed debut album appeared on the London-based indie Whirlwind Recordings in 2021. After festival and touring appearances, she guested on recordings by the Bruce Harris Quartet and Pasquale Grasso's Be-Bop. Joy signed to Verve for 2022's Linger Awhile. The album won her two Grammy Awards, including Best New Artist. A companion album, Linger Awhile Longer, arrived in 2023, as did the singer's first Christmas-themed record, Joyful Holiday. Portrait, a lavishly arranged octet album, appeared in 2024.
