Guitarist, songwriter, producer, and singer David Rawlings is best known for his musical partnership with Gillian Welch. With a timeless sound steeped in Appalachian, bluegrass, country, and other American folk traditions, the influential duo released landmark albums like 2001's Time (The Revelator) and 2011's The Harrow & the Harvest. Rawlings has also collaborated with Old Crow Medicine Show, Ryan Adams, Bright Eyes, Robyn Hitchcock, and many more. 2009's A Friend of a Friend was his first release as bandleader of David Rawlings Machine, which also issued 2015's Nashville Obsolete. Following his 2017 solo album Poor David's Almanack, he and Welch earned an Academy Award nomination for 2018's "When a Cowboy Trades His Spurs for Wings," then won a Grammy for 2020's All the Good Times (Are Past and Gone). After Rawlings rebuilt his Nashville studio, which was nearly destroyed by a tornado, the duo recorded their 2024 album Woodland there.
