Since the late ‘90s, country singer Adam Brand has been one of Australia’s most beloved country singers, armed with a catalog that trades in weekend anthems as much as it does thoughtful introspection. Born Adamo Alberto Brun in 1970 in Perth, Brand cut his teeth playing drums in church bands and busking before releasing his self-titled, full-length debut in 1998. Adam Brand was a decidedly old-school, honky-tonk affair, with rowdy and ramshackle tunes like “Dirt Track Cowboys” (about speedway racing, one of Brand’s passions) establishing him as a dynamic voice in the genre. Over multiple platinum records, he’s gone on to develop that voice to suit meditations on mortality (2014’s “Hearts I Leave Behind”), lovesick heartbreakers (2014 duet “Quit This Time”), and more than a few party-starters, like 2018’s jam “Party Down Under” and 2020’s swaggering “Freakin’ Weekend.”
