About Mofungo
With a sound influenced by avant garde jazz and post-punk aesthetics, New York City’s Mofungo can safely be classified as a No Wave band. 1980’s ELEMENTARY PARTICLES EP introduced their relentless, saxophone-driven noise rock, a sound refined on their full-length debut, END OF THE WORLD. The record created an underground buzz that sustained the band through numerous albums and line-up changes. BUGGED, from 1988 , released on the stalwart punk label SST, expanded the group’s audience, though its followup, 1989’s WORK was their final effort. Multi-instrumentalist and Mofungo member Elliott Sharp went on to become a key player in the New York downtown avant-jazz scene.
