Benediction is a British death metal institution, one of the U.K.'s most enduring and intense extreme metal groups. The band helped establish the scene in the early 1990s alongside fellow decibel-crushing Birminghamites Napalm Death and Bolt Thrower, releasing seminal efforts like Subconscious Terror (1990), The Grand Leveller (1991), and Transcend the Rubicon (1993), which combined unrelenting riffage and nihilistic lyrics with guttural vocals. After a long period of personnel changes and stylistic detours, Benediction returned to reclaim the death metal mantle in the 2020s, issuing Scriptures (2020) and Ravage of Empires (2025) to considerable acclaim.
