About Revolutionary Snake Ensemble
The Revolutionary Snake Ensemble is an experimental, improvisational brass band founded and led by saxophonist Ken Field (Birdsongs of the Mesozoic). In performance, RSE wear colorful costumes and lay down deep funk -- a swinging street beat juxtaposed with improvisation in original and traditional music. Year of the Snake, their 2004 debut, offered Field's originals and covers of Sun Ra, John Scofield, and James Brown. 2008's charting Forked Tongue featured brass band version of Billy Idol's "White Wedding." 2015's Live Snakes showcased four distinct incarnations of the ensemble and an all-star guest list. Released in 2016, I Want That Sound! garnered positive reviews internationally and sold respectably. After touring, playing residencies, theaters, street fairs, and parades as well as clubs, RSE issued Serpentine in 2025.
