About Big John Bates
In the artist’s words:
Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail.
Hellfire Rock’n’Roll - from Voodoo Dollz to Noirchestra to Atomic Twin, my musical memories are feelings made out of sound. The latest project is Atomic Twin and it sounds like the past and future crashing together.
What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular?
16 Horsepower, Low Estate
AC/DC, Highway to Hell
The Cramps, Psychedelic Jungle
All of these albums changed the way I appreciated music. The Cramps started my path to B-movie low-fi sounds, 16 Horsepower melded rock to gothic Americana (my Noirchestra albums) and Highway to Hell was the first album that blew my mind.

“Scarlet Letter”
Our newest release brings us back to our roots - this song could have been written in any incarnation of Big John Bates. Having our friend Dave Rave (Skinny Puppy, Jackalope) oversee and mix was the cherry on top.
