About Dan Weiss
A New York-based drummer, percussionist, composer, and bandleader, Dan Weiss has displayed an innate ability to integrate and balance modern jazz, East Indian, and rock rhythms. It has allowed him to work in a wide variety of musical situations with diverse groups of modern musicians. His 2005 debut, Tintal Drum Set Solo, was a recital. He followed it with the triple tabla collaboration Three D. As a leader, Weiss never records the same way twice. 2010's Timshel showcased a piano trio. 2016's widely acclaimed outing Sixteen: Drummers Suite, included a dozen musicians. In 2017, he formed an avant-jazz-metal outfit to record Starebaby on Pi Recordings; Starebaby was released in 2018. In 2021 he issued two albums with guitarist Miles Okazaki: Music for Drums and Guitar and Hive Mind. 2024's Even Odds (with Matt Mitchell and Miguel Zenon) was a trio offering while 2025's Unclassified Affection showcased a quartet.
