Artist Biography
Bassist and composer Marcus Miller has worked on hundreds of sessions and has released dozens of recordings since his late-'70s beginnings with Bobbi Humphrey and Lonnie Liston Smith and David Sanborn in the early 1980s. A producer, arranger, songwriter, film music composer, bassist, clarinetist, and saxophonist, Miller has been a utility player in the most prolific sense, and was a fixture as a performer in New York's jazz clubs before he was old enough to drive. During 1981 and 1982, Miller toured with longtime personal hero Miles Davis and subsequently worked with the trumpeter on several albums, including Tutu and Music from Siesta. His solo recordings are diverse hybrids of smooth R&B, funk, jazz, and world music. ~ Andy Kellman
