Artist Biography
UK-based Latin house duo Cabana comprises vocalist Mirelle Diaz, daughter of leading Afro-Cuban percussionist Robin Jones, and her half-brother musician, Krystof Pietklewicz, formerly percussionist with the Style Council. The group made its debut in September 1994 with ‘Bailondo Con Lobos’, the second release on Polydor Record’s newly formed dance offshoot, Hi Life (after Kim English’s ‘Nitelife’). The record was produced by Tom Frederikse, previously best known for his work with D:Ream, and was promoted by a subsequent tour. With remixes from Sasha, the Goodmen and Deep Recess, it became a minor club hit but failed to repeat the feat of Hi Life’s first single by breaching the UK Top 40.
